Astrolabe launches "little sister" brand Durvillea

- Publication date: 7 August 2009

Durvillea is a 'little sister' wine for established label Astrolabe Wines. It's made by Jane's husband Simon Waghorn. Taking responsibility for the wine after Simon's actually made it are his wife Jane, and their three daughters Meg, Libby and Arabella - with lots of help from the Astrolabe team. "This is a great chance for all of us to be more actively involved in the industry that's been a big influence in all of our lives."- Jane

A 25 year+ involvement in the wine industry can't help but have some effect on the whole family. It's shaped where the children have  been born, where they lived, the pattern and rhythm of family life and even some of their family values. They're very proud of Simon’s work and it's exciting for them to be stepping up to create their own brand.

This wine label is therefore about business, family, lifestyle and of course excellent wine. It is driven by the women in the family and aims to be accessible.

Durvillea is the botanical name for Bull Kelp or Rimurapa  which can found along Marlborough's Coast. Its strong lines, shapes, textures and colours were the inspiration for our wine.
